Hello August 2022

I was born and married in the month of August. Birthday cakes were very important to me.

My mom always ordered our birthday cakes because we had the best bakeries and pastry shops where we lived. My favorite birthday cake was from Charles Bakery on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.

My favorite cake was made by a local bakery, Charles Bakery. My husband, then boyfriend, decided to surprise me with this peaches and cream birthday cake. As he's coming up the last flight of steps, the box topples and falls upside down on the hallway floor. I told him it was no problem. My sister scooped up the whole top and fixed the cake. It was still so delicious. It was a memorial birthday.

So many years and so many birthday cakes.

Feeling very nostalgic on this birthday. Gone are the days of family around the table while cutting your birthday cake.

The world is changing right before our eyes. But, you should not feel that you should change to please the world.

Continue to be yourself and be proud of who you are. Celebrate the birthdays and milestones. 

Life is precious and so I thank God for another birthday.
