The start of a new year deserves a delicious beverage to toast happiness and good health for 2022

January 2022

We'll, I'm sure that each and every one of us can give their version of their experiences of 2021. What we all have in common is that we want this year to go away.

Right now, we're preparing to welcome the new year. Our New Years Eve party was cancelled for this evening.

We had an early dinner at 5 pm, so we prepared a few appetizers to pair with the chilled champagne.

A favorite roasted nut recipe

Here's all it takes:

2 2/3 cup almonds or mixed nuts

1/2 stick butter (4 TBS)

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

 1 tsp soy sauce

 1 tsp smoked paprika

 1 tsp cayenne pepper

 4 tsp cold water

 Directions:

Melt butter, add brown sugar and water, soy sauce and cook for about 5 minutes.

In large bowl, place nuts and top with cooked syrup. Toss very well. In 350 degree oven, place coated almonds on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with combination of salt and pepper and paprika. Bake for 10 minutes.

Cool completely before serving.

Note: I have used all different kinds of nuts or combination of nuts. Use your favorite, preferably unroasted and unsalted.

Pick a nut, any nut!

Sausages and pastries

My husband's family made grilled sausages at midnight. They would then serve cordials like whiskey, Italian cordials like Anisette or wine.

Also, Italian pastries were served and eaten at midnight.

Sausages at midnight was a must!

Delicious fresh pastry is a must on New Years.

This drink was necessary for the luck of the new year.
